Jet-ski "Turbulência" (Turbulence) for nearshore surveys
Through the project "Vulnerability of the coastal zone of São Paulo and Pernambuco States: present situation and projections for climate change scenarios" funded by FAPESP a jet-ski for nearshore surveys has been prepared for the surveys planed in the project.

The jet-ski "Turbulência (Turbulence)" is equiped with an eco-sounder and GPS for detailed nearshore bathymetric surveys. Additionally, it is being used to tow an ADCP in the surf zone and will be ready to receive additional instruments.

Below is an example of nearshore bathymetric survey conducted with the jet-ski in Ilha Comprida (south of São Paulo State) in front of the beach stretch where field experiments were being conducted.

The maneuverability and agility of the jet-ski allows detailed surveys in very shallow and dynamic areas. Other groups around the world also use this survey technique successfully (e.g. NEMO Jet-ski in The Netherlands (TUDelft); SCAMP Jet-ski in the USA (ONR); and the USGS Jet-ski; among others).
